Kant holds that the immediate objects of perception are due partly to external things and partly to our own perceptive apparatus.

From the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistic theory, perceptual phenomena are the mental construals of experiencethe impact of the environment on the body — as meaning.  As meanings, perceptual phenomena may be the ranges of mental processes, or the external causes of mental processes.
